Does Psych-K work?
You may have heard of a relatively ‘new’ process in the wellness and self empowerment field called Psych-K (psychological kinesiology). It was developed by Rob Williams in 1988 as a simple non invasive way to bio hack your subconscious mind to release old blocks and programmes. It’s claimed to be a ground breaking approach to facilitating fast change at a cellular level.
It was founded on the idea that we react to our environment based upon past programming, much of which happens when we are very young. Most of which have been based around other people’s (parental, societal, peer) views and beliefs of the world. Conclusions that come from our experiences are stored in the subconscious mind as beliefs, attitudes, and values, which then determine how we respond or behave in future life situations. As it’s our beliefs not our thoughts that shape our lives Psych K is an attractive modality for those who are tired of living from an helpful belief system that keeps unhealthy situations and experiences on repeat.
I’m really open minded when it comes to new modalities but I’ll be honest I was a tiny bit sceptical about the instant shifts marketing hype of Psych K. I wanted to try it for myself but I wasn’t ready to invest in a session so I gave it to the universe and asked if it would be useful for me to try then to make it happen, it did…I won a free 30 minute session.
In those 30 minutes we worked on one of my money beliefs, one that is deeply engrained and rooted coming from childhood and ancestral patterns of scarcity and lack. It was only a brief session (normally they are between 60-90 minutes) so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. My main gift ‘Clair’ gift is seeing, I often see internal shifts in my body clearly and during the exercise I saw an image of neurons and light / electricity moving through my neural pathways, so amazing to see. I woke up the next morning to some new clients wanting to work together so it was sweet confirmation that something had shifted.
I was intrigued by the process so I decided to book a full 90 minute session with another practitioner (as the first one had no availability). We worked on lots of different beliefs, some that arose in the session I didn’t even know I had. I could physically feel a clearing (via tears) and the calming in my nervous system as new beliefs integrated. I’m only sharing this to give you some idea as to what happened for me, we are all completely different so you may experience something completely different. Another of the beliefs we worked on is my difficulty in letting go, I hold on to people, experiences, things for far longer than is healthy for me (I’m a cancer with an open spleen in human design ~ I don’t let go easy). This is the one belief where I’ve seen the biggest impact. Situations arose post session that I would normally have reacted VERY differently to, instead I let them go without a second thought. I didn’t ruminate on them or worry that if I let them go it wouldn’t be replaced with better.
Do I believe this modality works? Yes
BUT only if you approach it with an open mind and a willingness to be open to change. I also see this work as being like an onion, the beliefs that are on the outer layers are easier to address and may only require one session. The deeper rooted beliefs may take a few sessions to change, it’s definitely something I’ll invest in again.
